Are you like me? Every year end I think about how I can make the next more exciting than the last. Will I travel? Take up a new hobby? Learn a new skill? Maybe it is all of the above!
If you have ever felt that yearning to break from the norm and try something entirely new, this could be your year. The world is your oyster! Below you will find some great ways to tap into your creativity and add some joy and happiness to your “me” time with 11 hobby and skill starter sets
It can be daunting! But it is so important to not be afraid to fail. I tell my teenagers all the time, “you don’t learn from your mistakes!” The joy of learning a new skill is in the act of creation itself. It’s the feeling of your fingers gliding over a newly smoothed piece of wood, the thrill of eating your first homemade cheese ball. Savor the journey, celebrate the small victories, and let the reward of progress fuel your passion.
When I grew up, we did not have all the screens. We were not able to jump on FaceTime to hang out with friends on the weekend or help with homework. Oftentimes, I was at the mercy of my parents and whether or not they felt like driving me somewhere to spend time with my friends. When they didn’t, I would have to entertain myself. That was truly when my creative juices started to flow. I wrote poetry, created mix-tapes and cut photos and letters from magazines to make covers for said mix-tapes.
Kids do not seem to do that any more – and neither do adults. It has become so easy to jump online or stream the latest binge-worthy show. I say, give yourself a break from the screen and instead, turn on your creativity.
Now, go forth and conquer, fellow adventurer! And remember, the journey is just as important as the destination. Happy learning!
