I don’t know what it is about summertime that has me wanting to be whisked away on a European vacation. Living in Fort Myers, it’s like a permanent island vacation, but there’s something romantic about the idea of flying off to somewhere like Paris and indulging in croissants, galettes, and macarons. To satisfy that want, I jumped at the opportunity to read The Paris Widow in advance of its publication date and this book hit the spot.

The Paris Widow is about a girl named Stella who goes with her husband Adam on a European vacation but after an explosion, Adam goes missing. From there, many secrets are exposed and Stella is led on a journey around Paris looking for answers, while also being educated on the black market of rare antiquities.

I read this book incredibly fast and it read as if I was watching a movie. It is definitely binge-worthy and it would make for a great book-to-movie adaptation, or for a mini-series. I love the way the author wrote with dual viewpoints and the way she described the city, placing you right there with Stella. I’ve never been to Paris, but I was able to envision myself there walking through the narrow streets, over the Seine, and relaxing at an outdoor cafe. There’s a lot of suspense throughout and I found myself always waiting to see what would happen next. Let’s just say, no one is who you think they are.

This book gets 4.5 stars only because I would’ve liked a deeper dive into Stella’s past. Once it was revealed, it seemed so interesting that I wanted more there. But overall, it was fantastic and I can’t wait to read more from Kimberly Belle. Other books of hers include Dear Wife, Stranger in the Lake, My Darling Husband and The Personal Assistant.

  • Kimberly Belle’s 'The Paris Widow'

When Stella met Adam, she thought she had finally found a nice, normal guy—a welcome change from her previous boyfriend and her precarious jetsetter lifestyle with him. But her secure world comes crashing down when Adam goes missing after an explosion in the city square. Unable to reach him, she panics.   As the French police investigate, it’s revealed that Adam was on their radar as a dealer of rare and stolen antiquities with a long roster of criminal clients. Reeling from this news, Stella is determined not to leave Paris until she has the full story. Was Adam a random victim or the target of the explosion? And why is someone following her through the streets of Paris? An irresistible, fast-paced read set in some of Europe’s most inviting locales, The Paris Widow explores how sinister secrets of the past stay with us—no matter how far we travel.
